Summary: In exchange for mobile presence in India, RIM, Nokia and Apple have allegedly provided backdoor access for the Indian intelligence to spy on communication. On January 6th reports of Symantec (makers of Norton Anitvirus) being hacked surfaced. The group of hackers behind the attack behind the attack were from India. In a statement issued by a member from the Lords of Dharamraja group (badass name!), the guys said: As of now we start sharing with all our brothers and followers information from the Indian Militaty (sic) Intelligence servers, so far we have discovered within the Indian Spy Programme (sic) source codes of a dozen software companies which have signed agreements with Indian TANCS programme (sic) and CBI Ignoring the typing error, gaining access to Indian Military?s Intelligence servers is pretty damning for the agency. The hack got covered since the hackers claimed to have acces to Norton?s source code. Earlier today I came across scans of a set of documents that are internal communications between the Indian Military. The documents claim the existence of a system known as RINOA SUR. While I did not find what SUR stands for but RINOA is RIM, NOkia and Apple. And this is where things start to get very interesting, according to the set of documents, the RINOA SUR platform was used to spy on the USCC?the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. Let?s take a moment for that to digest. Here?s an image from ...

Trouble followed German mother, son in 3 countries (AP)

LOS ANGELES ? Wherever Dorothee and Harry Burkhart went, trouble followed the mother-and-son duo.

Arsons in Los Angeles, Germany and possibly Canada. A daring escape through a German hospital window. A claim that fascists were trying to kill them. Skipping out on a bill for a breast augmentation surgery.

The 24-year-old Harry Burkhart became an internationally known figure after he was arrested this week in dozens of Hollywood arsons that left a string of torched buildings and cars and caused millions of dollars in damage. Authorities said they believe the motive behind the fires was anger at the U.S. government for arresting his mother on a German warrant.

But it's not his first encounter with an arson investigation. He is suspected of starting an arson fire late last year at a German house that belonged to his family, shortly before the Los Angeles fires. And Vancouver police said this week they are looking to see whether the Burkharts were living in the area when there was a series of suspicious fires.

A phone message left for Vancouver police was not immediately returned Friday, and the Burkharts have not been officially linked to any fires there.

The Burkharts' strange personas and odd behavior were noted at each stop as they hopscotched from their native Germany to British Columbia and finally California, and Los Angeles police believe, ultimately led to Harry Burkhart's arrest.

His anti-American outburst last week during a detention hearing for his mother cemented his likeness in the mind of a deputy U.S. Marshal, who recognized him after police began circulating a video showing the man wanted in the arson spree.

Court documents show Dorothee Burkhart's legal problems date back to at least 2000, when she rented out apartments in Frankfurt but failed to return the security deposits. She engaged in that scam several years later, according to German officials, and also didn't pay about $10,000 for a 2004 breast surgery.

She was arrested in mid-2007 and was taken to a hospital in Frankfurt for cardiac problems. She escaped out a window after prison guards took off her handcuffs and allowed her to use the restroom, said Michael Koch, who was appointed as her public defender. The 53-year-old is being held on a provisional arrest warrant.

She and her son landed in Vancouver shortly after her German escape. The pair applied for refugee status in Canada, contending they would be tortured and killed if they were sent back to Germany, The Vancouver Sun reported.

She told immigration officials that a right-wing fascist group had infiltrated the German government and police were after them because of their Russian origin, the paper said. The refugee claim was denied two years later.

In medical records from March 2010, a doctor said she suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks and her son suffered from autistic spectrum disorder since his childhood.

The younger Burkhart's name surfaced as a suspect in the German arson case after he filed an insurance claim shortly after the fire, Marburg prosecutors' spokeswoman Annemarie Wied said.

A search of his Hollywood apartment following his arrest turned up news articles about the Los Angeles fires along with some car fires in Frankfurt last September. German authorities said there was no active investigation of Burkhart in Frankfurt.

Twelve days after the German house fire, Burkhart was in Los Angeles, according to court documents, visiting the German consulate with his mother to try to renew his passport. His nonimmigrant visa is set to expire Jan. 18, authorities said. His mother last entered the country lawfully in January 2007, and she left four months later.

It's unclear if either Burkhart worked. A website offering appointment-only sensual massage is registered to Dorothee Burkhart, though her name is not mentioned on the site.

Their lives unraveled last week when the younger Burkhart caught the attention of court officials at his mother's hearing, yelling "F--- the United States!" or "F--- all Americans," authorities said.

At each of their subsequent court appearances, both Burkharts made a spectacle. Dorothee Burkhart constantly asked for her son, apparently unaware he had been arrested. She also wondered if the Nazis knew where she and her son lived.

The next day in court, her son was surrounded by sheriff's deputies as he alternated between sitting and standing. He often arched his head and body backward, looking up to the ceiling with his mouth agape.

On Friday, the elder Burkhart was ordered to return to court Tuesday with the hopes she will have hired an attorney. During a hearing, she denied the charges against her and suggested Nazis, not her son, were responsible for the recent rash of fires.

"One little mentally ill child cannot do fire like this," she said in broken English.

She stood up at one point and claimed she had been abused while in custody.

"Ma'am, sit down. This is not a show," said U.S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Nagle.

Her son has been charged with 37 counts of arson and is expected to return to court Jan. 24. He's being held on $2.85 million and could face additional charges, prosecutors said.

Fashion legends put stamp on suites, hotels

Courtesy Hotel Notre Dame

Each room of Le Notre Dame in Paris is decorated in an eclectic medieval-meets-modern fashion, with carpets that are meant to resemble paving stones, faux cowhide wallpaper, exposed beams and period artwork on the walls.

Among the world?s most celebrated fashion designers, there are those whose collections are so iconic and truly transformative that, given the opportunity, you would choose to live in their creations. Now, thanks to an emerging trend in travel, you can ? by simply making a reservation.

Over the past few years, a growing number of international style arbiters, from Christian Lacroix and Armani to Missoni and Dior, have been teaming up with high-end resorts and hotels to put their distinctive stamp on properties around the globe.

Slideshow: Top fashion designer hotels and suites

Some, like Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta, were tapped to rework the d?cor of a suite or series of rooms at a single property, while others have gone so far as to partner with major developers to launch eponymous hotel brands that span from Australia to South America to the Middle East.

These ultra-chic living spaces reflect the fashion brands? unique personalities and exemplify the way that they themselves would choose to travel and live. For example, the Bottega Veneta St. Regis Hotel suite in Rome features a sophisticated, neutral palate. ?We wanted to respect the character of the hotel and acknowledge the light of Rome through Bottega Veneta colors, materials and furniture,? said Tomas Maier, the brand?s creative director.

In each of these runway-ready locales, it?s not simply the linens on the bed or fabric upholstered onto the settees that subtly (and, in the case of Missoni, perhaps not so subtly) speaks the designer?s name. It?s also the branded amenities in the bathroom, commissioned artwork on the walls and an array of quirky signature services that evoke an idealized ? and always stylish ? travel lifestyle.

Even when you aren?t living out of a carry-on, it can be an ongoing challenge to keep ahead of the trends. Fortunately, these ten properties make it infinitely easier to stay in style ? even if you never leave your hotel room.

Fines pending for Ind. House Dems in labor battle

(AP) ? Indiana's House Democrats are bracing for major financial pain as they begin a third day blocking a bill that would make Indiana the first state in more than a decade to enact right-to-work legislation.

Fines of $1,000 daily for each Democrat could hit Friday depending on what Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma decides to do.

But Democratic Rep. Vanessa Summers says she is ready to suffer the fines as a single mother who lost her home and is putting her son through college.

Summers and other Democrats have denied Republicans the numbers needed in the House to push a bill that would bar private unions from collecting mandatory fees.

Republicans put the new fines in place after Democrats blocked the measure last year with a five-week walkout.

Video: GOP candidates shift focus to N.H.

>>> thanks. now to politics and the gop presidential candidates shifting their focus to new hampshire with that state's primary just five days away . nbc's peter alexander is in sail 'em where mitt romney is holding a town hall meeting with voters. peter, good morning to you.

>> reporter: good morning you to. that town hall starts shortly. the campaign staff for rick santorum says for his part he raised more than a million dollars yesterday alone. that is significantly more than santorum has raised in the past several months. and mitt romney is again flexing his organizational and financial muscles with stops here in new hampshire and south carolina today where he'll campaign with the governor nikki haley .

>> that is the key to america and what made america the greatest country in the history of the world .

>> reporter: with just days to go before tuesday's new hampshire primary rick santorum has little time to waste trying to capitalize on his strong showing in iowa .

>> we're doing okay right now. and if the people in new hampshire give us a shot my guess is we'll do a lot better.

>> reporter: late wednesday in front of an energized crowd mitt romney joked about his eight-vote victory.

>> fresh from that huge landslide victory in iowa .

>> reporter: trying to translate the narrow win into new momentum.

>> talk about a squeaker. talk about a squeaker. do you think we can do a little better here in new hampshire ? maybe. yeah.

>> reporter: romney proudly highlighted the endorsement of john mccain with whom he was locked in a bitter fight four years ago. but mccain told nbc's chuck todd that's history.

>> these things when you're dealing with grown-ups you understand a great deal and you move on.

>> reporter: meanwhile former utah governor jon huntsman dismissed both the iowa results and the gop front-runner.

>> you can get all the doles and all the mccains in the world as romney probably will but in the end nobody cares .

>> reporter: newt gingrich is already stepping up his battle following a disappointing fourth place iowa finish. the former house speaker welcomed romney to the granite state with his full page ad, contrasting himself to the former massachusetts governor .

>> there is an enormous difference between somebody who spends their entire career as a reagan conservative and somebody who has spent their entire career as a massachusetts moderate.

>> reporter: the only woman in the race, michele bachmann , will make the trip here.

>> thank you. it's been a wonderful ride.

>> reporter: wednesday following her sixth place finish in iowa she dropped out.

>> i didn't try to spin you. i listened to the people of iowa and all across america and they agreed that president obama and his socialist policies must be stopped.

>> reporter: but for her former rival the campaign goes on. despite long days and little sleep.

>> we'll see you on the 10th of july -- june -- january. get out and vote.

>> reporter: and rick perry said after the iowa caucuses that he would head home to texas and decide whether to reassess his campaign. he has apparently done that and said he is staying put. surprising even members of his own staff. ann, it is significant because it could actually according to analysts help mitt romney if it continues to divide the conservative wing of the republican field.

Hot Sex Prevents Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is caused by sexual frustration. Women should ditch their unsexy husbands and find a real man to satisfy them if they want to reduce the risk of the disease.

That's according to An Essay on Sexual Frustration as the Cause of Breast Cancer in Women: How Correlations and Cultural Blind Spots Conceal Causal Effects, a piece that was published today in The Breast Journal.

Wtf. Really -

Endocrinological processes are important targets in breast cancer research. These processes are also important in human sexual behaviors. I hypothesize that these processes are capable of adjusting or distorting biological active forms of speci?c sex hormones depending on experienced sexual stimuli. These aberrantly metabolized sex hormones will ultimately lead to breast cancer.

...My thesis is that breast cancer is essentially caused by sexual frustration. The focus of this hypothesis is aimed at the (un)consciously experienced tension and sexual dissatisfaction between the chosen mate based on socio-economic, intellectual, ethnic or cultural motives and the nonchosen potential mate who has more appealing sexual incentive properties.

In most western societies the improved economic independence of women has not changed to such a degree that long-term partners are chosen entirely according to sexual incentive properties. If the selected partner has no or weak sexual incentive properties for the other member of the couple, it is likely that sexual frustration will follow in the long run (6), which ultimately will cause breast cancer in some women...

WHY HIGHER SOCIOECONOMIC GROUPS OF WOMEN ARE MORE AT RISK
...higher socio-economic group of women pay more than average attention to the assets or status of the potential partner(7)....The chances of some women from higher socio-economic classes to ?nd a sexually compatible mate are considerably reduced. This is due to an often self-imposed very limited range of potential partners. In this group of women, high status of the potential partner compensates for the acceptance of physically less attractive men (9)...

HEIGHT AS RISK FACTOR IN BREAST CANCER
...These women have a disadvantage because they have a smaller pool to choose from if they want a man they will not tower over. This increases the chances to settle for a sexually incompatible partner...

BREAST CANCER RISK IN NUNS...
There are 15 references, but they're all about sex, not cancer. Thus we get a citation to support the statement that "If the selected partner has no or weak sexual incentive properties for the other member of the couple, it is likely that sexual frustration will follow in the long run (6)", but not for the rather more controversial idea that disappointment in the bedroom somehow leads to malignant mutations in the DNA of cells of the mammary epithelium.

Well, except the line that "aberrantly metabolized sex hormones" are responsible, which is the scientific equivalent of waving your hands and saying "woo".

How did this happen?

The Breast Journal, so far as I can see, publishes lots of sensible research. It may not be a major journal but it's MEDLINE indexed and ranked 143/184 for impact in the field of oncology, which means there are 40 cancer journals in the world that have less impact than it.

If I had published there, I'd be a bit miffed that my work was appearing in the same pages. Thankfully I haven't but as a scientist I'm still insulted that this has been published in a scientific journal, and will be appearing on the shelves of libraries around the world under the heading "science".
